Raised Garden Beds & Built-In Planters

Panorama builds raised garden beds and built-in planters in stone, brick, and block for homes across Wilmington and New Castle County. Timber beds rot out in five to eight years in our climate. A masonry bed is a permanent piece of the landscape, and at the right height it is far easier on your back than kneeling on the ground.

Beds are built with drainage at the base and a soil depth suited to what you actually intend to grow, whether that is herbs, vegetables, or foundation shrubs.

Common questions

How tall should a raised bed be?

Twelve to eighteen inches suits most vegetables. Waist height at roughly thirty inches is worth the extra cost if the point is to avoid bending, and it doubles as seating with a wide cap.

Do masonry beds need drainage?

Yes. Without a drainage layer and weeps, a stone bed holds water and drowns roots. It is a small detail that decides whether the bed works.

Can beds match my patio?

That is usually the right call. Building beds in the same stone as an adjacent patio or wall makes the whole yard read as one design rather than separate projects.
